Happy SysAdmin Day from Navisite
July 29th is a very special day here at Navisite, System Administrator Appreciation Day, better known as just SysAdmin Day. Sysadmins hold a very special place in our hearts, both those who work here and those who work for our clients.
As you peruse the rest of this website and read any industry publications, you are told time and time again about all manner of technology that will make your business run more smoothly or allow you to innovate, but what we tend to gloss over is the fact that all of this cool stuff still requires very intelligent and patient human beings to set it up and keep it running - this is the job of the sysadmin.
The sysadmins are the guys who stay up late when a problem absolutely has to be fixed before the office opens in the morning. The sysadmins are the girls who will come into the office at 2AM on Saturday morning and work until noon on Sunday of a bank holiday weekend to perform an upgrade because that’s the only downtime the business said was acceptable. The sysadmins are the people who have an encyclopedic knowledge of every cable run in the data centre and know that if you can’t get to the QA web server, it’s because the RJ45 connector really needs to be redone.
The sysadmins are the ones that keep your business and mine up and running and are the true heroes of the IT world. On this truly auspicious day we encourage you to thank them for all they do, buy them lunch or a caffeinated beverage of their choosing, and fight the urge to point out that the file server seems a little slow. They already know and they’re probably going to spend the weekend on it anyway.
