TechValidate Data Shows Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service Benefits Overcome Fears
Last month, my team published a blog post discussing a client survey conducted by TechValidate, on behalf of Navisite, which provided insights gleaned from our NaviCloud® Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) users. The data highlights how cloud deployments have made an impact on businesses in a real world setting. This depth of information is crucial to future development of our solutions portfolio and also provides a selection of proof points for businesses looking to find their first cloud solution.
With many studies and surveys focusing on the challenges of cloud computing, it becomes increasingly intimidating for businesses transitioning to cloud to make an informed decision on why, when and how they should employ cloud services. Right Scale’s State of the Cloud Report outlined the top challenges in 2016, citing a lack of resources, cloud security and compliance as the top three barriers to entry. So let’s balance the scales a bit and see how IaaS has helped businesses succeed in the cloud and what benefits are possible:
Businesses use IaaS for Production Environments, Testing/ Development and Replication:
To start, it is important to understand the ways in which organizations are using IaaS services. Like many other cloud solutions, they aren’t for every business or function. It’s important to consider the correct cloud services solution for your unique business needs. Of surveyed respondents, the top three ways in which organizations have employed NaviCloud IaaS where production environments (66 percent), testing and development (49 percent) and replication (39 percent).
Migrating IT functions to the cloud does not mean loss of control:
On-premise, legacy systems that have maintained IT business functions onsite have created a sense of control that some businesses fear will be lost when data is moved to the cloud. It can be scary to hand the keys over to a managed cloud provider However, with managed solutions like IaaS, system visibility and transparency provides peace of mind and can give more users within an organization enhanced control as compared to what the level of control they often have through complicated, legacy systems onsite. Sixty percent of NaviCloud users reported being very satisfied with their level of control.
Refocus on business-critical objectives:
This statistic continues to impress me and really gets to the core of managed services, like IaaS: 71 percent of surveyed respondents agree that working with Navisite allowed their IT-teams to refocus on business-critical objectives. Moving to the cloud frees up IT teams to focus on work that will make business better. No longer are they bogged down with managing infrastructure that can be costly and time consuming. With managed cloud services, IT personnel can now have the ability to provide additional benefits that further strategic goals rather than “chasing blinking lights.”
Client sentiment is such an important aspect of innovation in areas such as infrastructure-as-a-service and cloud computing. Navisite will continue to learn from our clients to ensure our solutions meet the growing and changing needs of modern business.
