When VMware Speaks, 500,000 of Their Clients Hear: It’s a Multi-Cloud World - #VMworld Day 1
This week, Navisite is once again exhibiting and speaking in sessions and panels at VMworld in Las Vegas. Like many trade shows, VMworld was originally a VMware only show, but it has since become the premier event for all facets of virtualization and increasingly for cloud. To reinforce this confluence, one of the big announcements this year from VMware was their new cross-cloud “Cloud Foundation” platform that will finally bring multi-cloud functionality to the enterprise. The fact that the industry leader in private cloud is openly embracing the public clouds shows how mature cloud really is.
Gartner predicted in their recent report “2016 Strategic Roadmap for Data Centre"
"[a] strategy that includes multiple infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) providers will become the common approach for 80% of enterprises by 2019, up from less than 10% in 2015."
VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger’s theme was “Freedom vs. Control” – this is the tension and dilemma that faces corporate IT. With the pending move to a hybrid cloud and multi-cloud world, workloads must answer the questions surrounding security, performance, data governance and more. The key message is that, when deployed properly, cloud allows end users the flexibility and scalability to create and place workloads as business needs demand, while still allowing the IT department to secure those workloads in a manner that satisfies the auditors, but doesn’t anger the users.
Cloud providers and the vCAN network were continually recognised during the session as the hosting industry encounters rapid growth from a $60B industry today to $110B by 2021. We are in an enviable position as we’ve spent more than a decade protecting clients of all sizes in dedicated and multi-tenant environments from the very “freedom vs. control” issues that corporate IT are grappling with in the cloud today. Make no mistake, these are not easy challenges to surmount, but vCAN provides VMware users with a list of pre-approved and trusted partners.
It was a busy, but energising first day at VMworld, and we’re excited to share our report tomorrow on day two. Don't forget to visit us at Booth 2161 to see our DaaS with Accelerated Graphics, NaviCloud and Proximity Client Portal demos - and also indulge in our sweet candy bar!
