Navisite Insights on #MicrosoftInspire2018
With over 40,000 attendees across 16,000 partners, Microsoft Inspire 2018 event took on a new scale. The message was clear and consistent – the opportunity to shape Cloud adoption is now, and Microsoft is committed to enabling partners in a bigger way, as it seeks enterprise Cloud domination.
It was the first time that Microsoft hosted its partner event in the same week as its own sales team's kickoff, as it intentionally worked to align these two worlds towards a common purpose: accelerate Cloud adoption in the enterprise segment.
Microsoft’s senior leadership was on-point with their messaging. Across both Satya Nadella and Gavriella Schuster’s keynotes, not only did they provide ample evidence of how Cloud and AI are changing the face of business, but they also reinforced the critical role of partners in turning this vision into reality.
As a long-term Microsoft partner that is always seeking to unlock added value for our enterprise clients, there were a few things that caught the attention of the Navisite team:
1. Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2 EOL: Microsoft still has a significant install base of these legacy technologies, and it is turning this into a big advantage; enterprises can significantly reduce costs and extend their support by migrating these to Azure. The good news is that Navisite has already established a Migration Center of Excellence to facilitate this transition for our clients.
2. Azure SQL Database Managed Instance: Microsoft is releasing a fully-managed SQL DB instance on Azure, thereby abstracting all the hassles of managing large databases on-prem. As a partner that has built significant expertise in managing hosted Microsoft SQL servers over the past 15 years, we’re excited about the potential we can bring to our clients, enabling them with a fully-baked SQL PaaS offering with a rich set of analytics and tooling.
3. The Modern Desktop: Protecting Data, People and Devices has never been easier. Microsoft delivers the promise of ubiquitous anytime, anywhere access across Office 365, Windows 10, and Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS) to an integrated and secure Cloud Desktop bundling under Microsoft 365. Navisite is integrating its own Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) solution using Managed Office 365 and Windows 10 under a managed workspace solution, as a precursor to Microsoft 365.
4. Azure Growth: Microsoft continues its domination, with Azure growth pegged at 89% in their recent earnings. And every $1 of Azure consumption leads to $5 in partner services, something that was quite evident at Inspire as well. These services are all about a curated, well-integrated suite of managed services aimed at migrating, enabling, and supporting mission-critical enterprise workloads in Azure. This is an area where Navisite has made significant investments over the last two years, to enable our enterprise clients, as part of expanding our multi-cloud managed services credentials.
All in all, I walked away excited and inspired about the journey ahead of us and the potential of AI to further revolutionize both our industry and that of our clients.
