Capture the Real Value of Cloud Solutions in the Channel
Earlier this month, my colleague Chris Patterson, senior director of product management at Navisite, joined Ryan Morris of Penton Technology for a Channel Expert Hour webinar, presented by MSP Mentor. The webinar, “Capture the Real Value of Cloud Solutions,” highlighted what channel and IT professionals need to know to help their clients unlock the benefits of cloud.
According to Rightscale’s 2016 State of the Cloud Report, 95 percent of enterprise respondents were using the cloud. As a result of this increased adoption, cloud conversations today have shifted from “why cloud” to “how do I best execute cloud?” The modern enterprise struggles less with moving workloads to the cloud and more with ensuring all cloud systems work together.
This can be a daunting task for even some of the most sophisticated IT teams. At this stage, most organizations are at least “dabbling” in cloud and many are using multiple clouds – the State of the Cloud Report found cloud users leverage six clouds on average! That’s a lot of technology to keep track of and maintain within an enterprise. Beyond simple “hybrid” prem/hosted integrations, the complexities of multicloud platforms can be exponential.
So where do managed service providers and channel partners fit into the mix? The most important question a channel/MSP provider needs to ask is: What is the cloud being used for within a client’s organization? Enterprises are looking to extend the cloud, but are struggling with how to do it. By understanding this, MSPs/channel companies can help clients strategically determine the right path to cloud.
MSPs/channel providers can help organizations turn the “dream” of a single cloud management/integration platform into a reality by focusing on offering superior support for complex IT ecosystems.

While there is a plethora of cloud options out there, enterprises continue to struggle with making the right choice in terms of vendor partners, as well as selecting the best approach to their own cloud deployments.
As Ryan Morris of Penton Technology best put it during the webinar, the IT partner community has an opportunity to shift cloud conversations from a housekeeping discussion to a truly strategic, value-driven dialogue.
